Scale up for Creative Growth: Hull and East Yorkshire

The Creative Growth Programme will provide FULLY-FUNDED ‘scale up’ support to high-growth potential SMEs from the creative industries and help them to grow by becoming more investment ready.

Creating investment-ready business
The Creative Growth Programme is a 12 week course that includes 6 practical workshops, investment diagnostic, peer networks and mentoring.

With one workshop across the first 6 weeks, it is designed to fit around existing and personal commitments. Participants will finish the course ready investment ready and lead on a practical approach to pitching and understanding their future growth plans.

The Hull and East Yorkshire Business, Growth and Skills Hub (formerly the HEYLEP) in partnership with Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and the University of Hull, are delivering the Creative Growth: Hull and East Yorkshire Programme.

Designed to support ambitious and growth-orientated creative businesses the programme is aimed at firms from a wide range of creative sub-sectors, including Advertising, Marketing and PR; Architecture; Crafts; Design and Fashion; Film, TV, Radio and Photography; IT, Software, Apps and Video Games; Museums, Galleries and Libraries; Music, Visual and Performing Arts; and Publishing and Translation Services.

This free-to-access programme is aimed at businesses looking for advice and support to grow and access external investment.

PROGRAMME AGENDA
Delivered across a 12 week period that includes 6 practical workshops, investment diagnostic, peer networks and mentoring.

The first cohort starts on the 17 September, with workshops completing on 16 October, and mentoring and peer sessions continuing for another 6 weeks at the time convenient to each participant.

Growth Dynamics
What does growth mean for different types of businesses? Developing strategy, strategic tools for growth.

 

Tuesday 24th September 9am – 3pm
Marketplace Motives
Consumer decision-making, perception, and market trends.

 

Tuesday 1st October 9am – 3pm
Innovation Playground
Conceptual foundations of creativity, innovation and organization. Systems for supporting creativity and innovation including IP, legal frameworks.

 

Tuesday 8th October 9am – 3pm
Financial Growth
Using financial data to make informed decisions about future operations including identifying relevant financial metrics for monitoring growth and productivity.

 

Tuesday 15th October 9am – 3pm
Art of Pitching
Understand the art of pitching. How to pitch to investors, understand what they want and how to present your opportunity to them.

 

Wednesday 16th October 9am – 3pm
Investment Springboard
Pitching key aspects of your business needs to support successful growth: people, partnerships, place.

 

Learning outcomes
- Develop a critical understanding of the factors that drive growth in the creative industries and operating within the wider creative economy.
- Equip SMEs in creative industries with the mix of knowledge and skills required to successfully realise value in a creative industry context
- To develop entrepreneurial, management and leadership capabilities and behaviours within SMEs to grow successfully in the creative economy through investment opportunities
- Provide the opportunity to evaluate the critical success factors for commercialising creativity.

 

Applied Learning
Across the programme participants will access our Associate Network of Industry speakers and experts that bring a wealth of real-world experience to the programme, offering valuable insights and practical strategies for growth. Their expertise help transform theoretical knowledge into actionable wisdom, driving innovation and competitive advantage for participants. At various stages participants will engage in different forms of applied learning, gaining practical and applied knowledge.


Pitching.
The difference between a good and a great pitch or presentation is down to delivery. If you can’t inspire the room, you won’t be memorable. This practical session with our Pitching Coach will empower participants to learn and practice what it takes to create a compelling, powerful pitch.

 

Investment Diagnostics.
Investment Diagnostic will support you to dig deeper into your business plans and finances to look at what scaling up might offer you and how investment can help. These are then supported with your 1-to-1 investment mentor meetings.

 

Mentoring.
Each participant will be matched with a mentor with experience in the creative sector and provide 1-to-1 support through the programme. All our mentors are experienced business professionals, with years of knowledge on investment and growth.

 

Who can apply?
The programme is fully-funded by the Department of Culture, Media & Sport and therefore businesses do not require to pay any course fee to participate.

Eligibility Criteria
Your business should;
- Be recognised as a creative industry
- Trading address in Hull & East Yorkshire
- Be profit making for at least 2 years
- Employer at least equivalent of 2 FTE (either directly or as freelancers)

Your business should be from one of the creative sub-sectors defined below;
Advertising, Marketing and PR; Architecture; Crafts; Design and Fashion; Film, TV, Radio and Photography; IT, Software, Apps and Video Games; Museums, Galleries and Libraries; Music, Visual and Performing Arts; and Publishing and Translation Services.
